Electrical and Mechanical Predictive Maintenance Activities will always include the modality of thermal infrared imaging. Thermal imaging has been used for 50+ years to find things that are about to break, but it has become very popular over the past 15 years because of uncooled microbolometer technology, which drove prices down significantly on infrared equipment. But in the past 3 years, because of manufacturing economies of scale, low-end infrared cameras are now priced in the couple of thousand-dollar range with some IR imagers available as stand-alone units or add-ons to cell phones, which are priced in the couple of hundred-dollar range! At these price points, anyone can afford to utilize thermal imaging. This presentation will demonstrate myriad of uses for this amazing technology.

Gregory R. Stockton, M.CIT is a principal in three infrared (IR) companies. He has published thirty-two technical papers about infrared thermography and written numerous articles about applications for IR thermography in trade publications. He is Chairman of United Infrared’s Thermal Imaging Conference (TIC), a member of the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers, a member of the Program Committee and Chairman of the Buildings & Infrastructures Session of ThermoSense, at the Defense and Security Symposium.
